The Benefits of Bell Ringing
We asked people what they like about bell ringing …
Being part of a community
“Bellringers are really one big community, and because it’s so open and sociable, you can make very good friends through ringing very easily”
Learning a new skill
“You’re controlling a fast moving piece of metal to split second accuracy using a very long, springy rope that disappears through a hole in the ceiling”
Being part of a long history and tradition
“Every tower tells a story. What I love is that you can go up into the belfry and see all these little pieces of history that no one ever gets to see”
The opportunity to travel
“The outings, the competitions, there’s just so much to offer and the different towers you get to ring at, you get to travel everywhere. You just get to meet so many new people”
Passing on knowledge
“To me, I enjoy teaching as much as going quarter-pealing”
It’s good for my wellbeing
“It’s very good not only physically but mentally as well”
It’s good fun…
“Ringing is remarkably fun, where else can I make so much noise and not get told off? Plus I’ve made tonnes of new friends, learnt a new skill, entered a national competition and earned some money”

What our students are saying…
Here are just some of the many kind comments we regularly get…
Learning to ring bells can be quite a challenge at times. But the Alresford group have some great teachers and everyone is very friendly and supportive, which has made learning to ring both rewarding and enjoyable for me.

Sarah
The teachers have been wonderful. I really appreciate that people will take their time out to do it and with really goodwill. So I really feel that they want me to do well and learn. So it’s nice

Jessica
(after 3 lessons)
We’ve had two hours of support – sometimes, three hours a week, which is brilliant. It’s been really good and I think it’s a really, really intensive way to learn. But I think we’ve really benefited.
